A eulogy is typically a short speech that honors and praises an individual; eulogies are often read during funeral services to pay homage to the deceased and highlight his values or accomplishments. If you’ve been asked to give a eulogy during a memorial or funeral service, it’s best to write down and organize your thoughts ahead of time. Many people start by listing their experiences with and memories of the deceased, then selecting a few stories or memories that best capture the relationship they shared. You may also wish to outline important dates such as graduations, weddings, and other accomplishments, as well as highlight relationships with other family or friends. Keep in mind that your eulogy needn’t be long—most eulogies are best kept to just a few minutes, which allows time to share your personal memories and grief within the larger framework of the funeral service.
Eulogies honor the deceased and bring mourners together to share cherished memories and thoughts. Write an Elegy
An elegy is a reflective poem written to express love and grief after a death. Writing an elegy allows friends and family members to put their feelings of sadness and loss into words without the need to tell a story or create a public speech. You can choose to share your elegy at your loved one’s funeral service, or simply keep your writing private as a personal form of grief and remembrance.ele
Donate to a Charity or Cause
Donating time, money, or materials to a charity or cause that your loved one supported is a wonderful way to honor his values and goals. Many families opt to include information about donations to charitable causes in lieu of flowers in their loved one’s obituary. This option allows mourners to memorialize the deceased in a personal, positive, and lasting way.
Create a Scrapbook
Scrapbooking allows family and friends to work together in the creation of a tangible reflection of their loved one’s life and accomplishments.
